My Drum Corps Experience

Well let’s begin with what drew me to my life of Drum Corps.  I started playing percussion in the sixth grade, but was not introduced to Drum Corps International (DCI) until my sophomore year when I moved to Virginia Beach in 1991.  My high school buddy showed me my first finals video and I was hooked like a junky on heroin.

After playing with the high schools drum line for two years I finally mustard up the courage to audition for my first drum corps.  A fellow drummer and I drove down to Charlotte North Carolina for auditions with Carolina Crown.  The audition went well for me except I did not make the drum line but instead made the horn line.  I did not complete the season due to personal reasons and regret it.  This did not end my quest to become a fully seasoned veteran.  In 1996 I will once again try to audition for now Magic of Orlando’s drum line.  This time I succeed by making the cymbal line with no regrets this season.

Even though I do not march with DCI anymore does not mean that it does not run through my veins.  I still look forward to the day when I can audition for a senior corps.  Thank you.

  2. Thanks for looking at my somewhat latest blog. I even would like to eventually do graphic design for DCI one day. But I hear its real hard to get your foot in the door due to they generally search with in for employment. But a fan can dream right?

    Well thank you again. Brian
